One Moment in Time, A Cause Shown

One week ago, I was attending BlogConCLT, a fantastic event put on by the Franklin Center for Government & Public Integrity and FreedomWorks. As my regular readers know, the bulk of my content here is on the "Finest Hour" motif, and I don't weigh in on other topics as often as I'd like to. I'll admit, my original reason for going to BlogCon was selfish: I wanted to meet so many of the wonderful people I've interacted with via Twitter and other online methods in person.

I did accomplish that, and so many e-acquaintances I can now count as real friends. What I really took away from the experience though was completely unexpected.

Here Comes the A-Bomb...

...and Herman "999" Cain is in the bomb sight, and no not for an atomic bomb, but for abortion.

Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway provides a very complete run down of Mr. Cain's recent Q&As on the pro-life issue.

I'm not going to rehash Mr. Cain's recent both-sides-of-the-fence statements on abortion, as Doug did such a good job. I agree that Mr. Cain's stance is coming across as basically pro-choice, in that he is using the "personal choice" argument, while also saying the practice should be "illegal"; two, mutually exclusive positions.

I did dig up this interview given by Mr. Cain to Human Events during his run for the US Senate seat from Georgia, dated October 3, 2003. In it, there is the following exchange:
HE: Where do you stand on abortion?
CAIN: Pro-life, conception to the grave.
HE: Do you favor a human life amendment?
CAIN: Explain to me what you mean by the human life amendment?
HE: Well, the human life amendment, which has been in the Republican platform since, I think, 1980, and would go in the United States Constitution, stating just that an unborn child has a right to life from conception.
CAIN: I would support that, stated the way you state it. Yes, I would.
Ok, what are we to draw from all of this? I will take Mr. Cain at his word that he is pro-life, but his equivocation on government's role in assuring the sanctity of life is disturbing, particularly in the shortcomings he's shown in responding to pointed questions on other issues. His explanation is lacking to say the least, but I do believe that there is a constitutional explanation that could be brought into play.

I raise this possible explanation only as it is directly related to my own, very strong pro-life views.

Big Brother wants to know how much you drive...and tax you for it!

This proposed new tax would require you to have a GPS device embedded in your vehicle so the government can tax you on the miles you drive.

Be very clear on this - if enacted, the government will be not only tracking how much you drive, but where and on what roads, just so they can tax you accordingly. Yeah, right.

Also be very clear: the thought that this would "replace" current gasoline taxes is laughable.

Be very afraid.

The Army of Joe the Plumber

If the McCain/Palin ticket manages to pull this out, we'll have a plumber from Ohio with entreprenurial spirit largely to thank. First for putting the New Soviet Man on the spot, and then for unleashing an army of other, hard working, American Joes.

Don't miss this story (Hat tip: Power Line)

The future SecState?

Rumored to be on the New Soviet Man's short list for Secretary of State, John Kerry (loser, 2004 Presidential Election) shows yet more of his true tact and classiness.

By the way, did you know he went to Vietnam?

Spied on NRO...

Kathryn Jean Lopez relays an e-mail she received about a recent Episcopal Church service in NYC.

This is hardly a rare occurrence at churches of my ex-denomination, as readers of Stand Firm in Faith are sure to know.

Election fraud? What election fraud?

Via Texas Rainmaker, veteran of the 2004 election as a member of the Republican Legal Task Force, a story of Democratic shenanigans in Philadelphia that November day.

Based on reports from PA and the surrounding states, I'd say the fix is in again.

He (Texas Rainmaker, that is) has perhaps the best blog tag line:

Every morning when I wake up I read the Bible and the newspaper...because I want to know what both sides are up to.

Amen to that.

Barack's real party?

The Power Line guys have a great post on the New Soviet Man's associations with far left political parties.

I don't refer to Barack Obama as the "New Soviet Man" lightly. I am completely serious in my assertion that he is a Commnunist totalitarian.

Fresh Hell

From Ed Morrisey at HotAir, an article about how a "highly respected...ethicist" from the United Kingdom thinks the elderly and infirm should be eliminated to save society the cost.

Totalitarian leftists like this are why I'm anti-nationalized healthcare, and most definitely pro-life.

You know, I was reading the other day about how Elizabeth Edwards - wife of can't-keep-his-pants-zipped John Edwards - was bemoaning that the Presidential campaign has been led astray from a debate on health care policy and issues.

As you may have heard, Mrs. Edwards has incurable cancer.

I wonder if she's drawn the connection yet that the inevitable path of socialized medicine and state control of people's health care is that those who can't be cured and are just a drain on society's resources, should well...you know...receive special treatment.

Excuse me, while I go vomit.

Left Wing COMINT

COMINT, for those of you who don't know is intelligence community slang for "communications intelligence" (There's also ELINT, HUMINT, and SIGINT, but I digress).

It's clear that for all of the Left's hand wringing and bloviating about how it's an affront to privacy to try and capture and exploit the communications of our enemies, they really only care about it so long as it is one of them who is the target.

Michelle Malkin has the best roundup of the Sarah Palin e-mail hack, as well as another article which delves deeper into the perpetrator(s).

The lack of outrage from the media is a disgrace, but entirely predictable.

Now, there are also these reports that the Associated Press is refusing to cooperate with the Federal criminal investigation into the hack!

Two words: Enemies Domestic.

The victory continues...

As if MSNBC really thinks this will end the bias question...

Yeah, I'm sure that Keith Olbermann of the self-proclaimed "Olbermann Broadcasting Empire" (this was the copyright citation on a book he wrote with Dan Patrick) really initiated the conversation about reducing his role in the political coverage.

I believe that as much as I believe that the MSM is unbiased.

Joe Biden: A Man Who Cannot Tell the Truth

Michelle Malkin has a scathing review of the way Joe Biden is demonizing the unfortunate other driver in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of Biden's first wife and daughter. The Plagiarist claims that the other man was drunk, when none of the contemperaneous information from the police who investigated the accident indicates that.

In Joe Biden's world, everybody is a victim, there always has to be a villian, and true accidents can never be just that.

Disgraceful.

What does this remind you of?

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) has the following poster available for sale on his website:

Priced truly for the proletariat masses at a mere $70.00 (that works out to about 16 hours at federal minimum wage, after taxes, if you're wondering. Truly, Mr. Obama is for the working class).

Now, what does this poster really remind me of? How about:

Or perhaps:Echoes of the past, embodied by the socialists of today.
