On October 7th, 1968 Apollo CSM-103 a.k.a. Apollo 8 was stacked on top of Saturn V booster 503 - the first time a man-rated spacecraft was prepared to go to the Moon. Preparations for the landmark Apollo 8 flight to orbit the moon continued in anticipation of a successful Apollo 7 Earth-orbital flight in the next few weeks.
